The Latvian factory Vilnas Fabrika produces both section-dyed and solid-coloured spun yarns. The yarn consists exclusively of sheep’s wool, without the addition of any other fibres. Knitted garments made from it provide excellent protection against the cold, are very warm, and incredibly beautiful.
The yarn is available in three thicknesses:
- 6/1 – 420m per 100g (single strand)
- 6/2 – 275m per 100g (double strand)
- 6/3 – 125m per 100g (rarely available)
The yarn is supplied in skeins of varying weights.
Yarn consumption:
- Hat – approx. 100g
- Cowl – approx. 200g
- Sweater (size 44) – approx. 400g
- Entrelac jacket (size 44) – approx. 700g
The length of the colour sections always varies, regardless of how many colours are in the skein. Each skein begins and ends with different shades.
